Brighton and Hove Albion are targeting a move for Tottenham defender Joe Rodon, as they look into replacing Newcastle United-bound Dan Burn.
The Magpies had an initial bid of £8 million rejected for the Brighton defender but Eddie Howe remains keen on a deal, leaving Graham Potter looking for potential replacements.
Out of favour Rodon has been identified as one such player, with Potter having managed the 24-year-old during his time as Swansea City manager.
The Wales international has fallen well behind in the Tottenham pecking order, making just seven appearances in all competitions and just one in the Premier League.
But there is no doubting that Rodon remains a player with plenty of promise.
Ahead of the delayed Euro 2020 tournament, Gareth Bale spoke highly of Rodon's abilities, saying he can only see the defender getting better.
"He has come on leaps and bounds this season, made such a progression in his football, he has got better and better and looks like a real strong defender, sharp, and he is looking better and better," he said back in May 2021.
"He will be one of the top defenders in the Premier League in years to come. This is another step in the right direction for him and something he wants to test himself with.
"I am sure he will do fantastically for us."
