Premier League: How the table would look so far without VAR

VAR has been in the Premier League for a number of years now, with fans having polarising views on the involvement of technology in the sport.

Despite the obvious advantages, there are some drawbacks, with officials still making incorrect calls and later apologising to the club in question. All in all, the involvement of VAR is a positive thing to help ensure the correct calls are made, especially with offsides, we just need the standard of officiating to improve with it now. However, fans will always wonder what the difference would be without VAR.

ESPN have compiled how the Premier League table would look this season so far without VAR, using their complex system on how it’s worked out.

The Champions League spots are unaffected really, however, Arsenal would be three points better off, with Tottenham switching places with Manchester City. Brighton’s points haul would remain the same, with the Seagulls claiming fourth spot at the moment regardless of VAR.

Fulham, Bournemouth, Leeds and Everton would jump up to fill places five to eight in that order, whilst both Manchester United and Liverpool would slip to ninth and 10th respectively.

Newcastle would keep their place in 11th position, but Chelsea would drop off massively without VAR, resuming the campaign in 12th. Wolves would be the only climbers in the bottom half, moving further ahead of the dreaded drop zone. They’re followed by Brentford, Southampton, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace who all drop down without VAR.

All three teams in the bottom three would remain as they are position wise, with West Ham a point better off but Nottingham Forest two points back, so unfortunately for fans of the clubs in the bottom three, they can’t blame VAR for their poor form yet.
