Premier League headlines: England squad withdrawal and Liverpool anger

Shaka Hislop was awarded the freedom of Newcastle earlier this year in recognition of the role he played in the foundation of ‘Show Racism the Red Card’. Speaking to Chronicle Live, he discussed how society, and in turn football, can continue the steps it has taken in trying to eradicate racism.

"Education is still key - that's where our focus has always been,” said the United legend. “As much as we have been involved in football, education is the key challenge.

"There are so many societal issues that we all have to deal with today. Education remains key to it, understanding each other's stories, understanding that despite our differences how much unites us. The more we talk about these issues and the more we are honest about these issues, I think the closer we come to understanding them."

The 2022/23 season isn’t quite finished for players who have been called up for their respective international squads. For England, they are in Nations League action during June with games against Hungary (twice), Germany and Italy on the agenda.

Gareth Southgate named his 27-man squad last week but might be contemplating a replacement after it was confirmed Ben White wouldn’t be joining up with the squad. The Arsenal defender has pulled out of the summer camp with an injury and will continue his rehabilitation at Arsenal as he hopes to be fully fit for the start of next season.
