Rangers have the perfect opportunity to bounce back from their Old Firm battering at the weekend when they travel to Amsterdam to face Ajax in the opening fixture of Group A.

The Gers go into their first appearance in the group stages of this competition for 12 years under a cloud after that demoralising 4-0 drubbing at Celtic Park but their supporters can take solace from their form in Europe over the last 12 months, which has, on the whole, been very impressive.

Gio van Bronckhorst's side have already defeated one giant of Dutch football on their own patch this season - PSV Eindhoven (who beat Ajax in the Dutch Super Cup at the end of July), and they should not fear a trip to Amsterdam despite the hosts flawless start to their domestic campaign.
