Praveen / Melati Cancel German Open after Tested Positive for Covid-19
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Djarum's two mixed doubles, Praveen Jordan/Melati Daeva Oktavianti and Dejan Ferdinansyah/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja, will not play in the Super 300 German Open. Both pairs were tested positive for Covid-19 ahead of their departure to Germany on Friday, March 4.
PB Djarum chairman Yoppy Rosimin announced the news through PB Djarum official website on Saturday, March 5. He said the mixed double players are in a good condition even though they are exposed to Coronavirus.
"Four players were declared positive for Covid-19 on the test before the departure. They are in a good condition and show no symptoms. We're currently focusing on their recovery," said Yoppy.
PB Djarum planned to send Praveen/Melati and Dejan/Gloria to compete in three European championships, starting from Super 300 German Open (March 8-13), Super 1000 All England Open (March 16-20), until Super 300 Swiss Open (March 22-27).
For now, the cancellation is only done for the German Open, while the other tournaments will go as scheduled.
“We're monitoring the development. If in the next 3-7 days [they're tested] negative, they'll go straight to the All England and Swiss Open. I hope the players stay motivated and don't give up. What's important right now is their recovery," Yoppy added.
All players are self-isolating as set by the prevailing health protocol. The authorities are monitoring their condition and if they are declared to be negative for Covid, they will continue the preparation for All England dan Swiss Open.
