Potential IWGP Heavyweight Championship match planned for Forbidden Door

It seems as if New Japan Pro Wrestling’s top prize is potentially planned to be defended at the highly anticipated AEW X NJPW crossover show Forbidden Door.

With NJPW legend Hiroshi Tanahashi making a surprise appearance on Dynamite this is the first major step towards the moulding of the Forbidden Door card.

Forbidden Door will take place on the 26th of June 2022 at the United Center in Chicago.

However, last night there was a huge change to this due to the injury of CM Punk, therefore it is unknown if Tanahashi will still be at the event. What we do know is an interim AEW World Champion will be decided at the event, as the winner of next week’s battle royale will go one-on-one with Jon Moxley.

The winner of this bout will be the champion going into Forbidden Door.

According to Wrestling Observer Radio, it was reported that ” the IWGP Heavyweight Championship match won’t be able to be announced until the 15th (Dynamite). One of the matches being Okada v Hangman Page for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship, these pans could change or whatever”

Also, Meltzer went on to say “rest of the show will probably be tag matches between factions”.

Page is scheduled to face NJPW’s David Finlay on this Wednesday’s Dynamite, this could be the first step into finding out what Page’s intended pans are and whether the IWGP Heavyweight
