Portugal boss praises former Manchester United ace Cristiano Ronaldo's dressing room role

Portugal manager Roberto Martinez has insisted that Cristiano Ronaldo is a unique member of his squad after the former Manchester United striker scored twice in a 6-0 victory over Luxembourg.

Ronaldo captained Portugal once again in Euro 2024 qualifying and played 65 minutes in what was a comfortable win over Luxembourg. The 38-year-old got his national team off to a fantastic start in the ninth minute before his team raced into a 3-0 lead thanks to goals from Joao Felix and Bernardo Silva before the 20-minute mark.

Al-Nassr's captain made it four just after the half-hour mark to finish the match as a contest early doors. Ronaldo would be booked in the 57th minute before being replaced in the second half.

Speaking post-match, Martinez was pleased with how his captain performed. "Cristiano is a unique player in the world, with the highest number of international caps," the former Belgium manager said.

"The experience he has for the dressing room is very important. All players have an important role.

"The younger ones due to their willingness to play and players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Rui Patricio and Bernardo Silva bring experience. It's important to have a complete dressing room."

After Ronaldo had been withdrawn, Otavio and Rafael Leao added to the scoreline. Ronaldo now has just over a week to recover ahead of his next match on Tuesday, April 4, as Al-Nassr travel to Al-Adalah in the Saudi Pro League.
