Portimao Moto3 test: Foggia fastest overall

Despite missing the opening day and a half day to sickness, Leopard’s Dennis Foggia topped the Portimao Moto3 test.

The 2021 runner up was back to his best by Sunday afternoon, having spent the opening four sessions laid up with gastro issues. His 1’46.990 fastest effort, set on his 11th lap of Monday’s opening action, bettered his 28 rivals overall with the Italian already having sat second in the combined times the day before.

Rivacold Snipers Andrea Migno was just half a tenth adrift of his countryman as the three-day test concluded, with Foggia’s teammate from last season, Izan Guevara, taking third on his new GasGas Aspar.

Just ten riders took to the track for the afternoon’s final session, Foggia initially running amongst the group before calling time after ten laps. Sergio Garcia claimed the closing standings with a 1’47.696, placing him ninth overall but conditions meant the earlier times would not be challenged.

A strong rookie performance saw BOE SKX’s David Muñoz complete the test fifth overall, six-tenths adrift of the overall target despite being too young to compete in the class until round seven. Ayumu Sasaki and Tatsuki Suzuki sat either side of the Spaniard in the times with Jaume Masia, Deniz Öncü and Kaito Toba completing the top ten.

Sterilgarda Max Racing’s John McPhee headed the trio of Brits from 12th thanks to a 1’47.794 lap during the mid afternoon outing, with Scott Ogden and Josh Whatley completing their official debuts 18th and 27th on the VisionTrack Hondas. Ana Carrasco enjoyed a confident return to the MotoGP paddock, improving her time on the BOE KTM by seven seconds, to run just over two seconds off the pace by the close of play.
