Portimao Moto2 test: Dixon ‘feeling good, happy’ with Aspar

Jake Dixon continued his strong showing on the Aspar GasGas at Portimao with a top four finish in Sunday’s Moto2 test.

Having sat top of the times on day one, Dixon was in control again on Sunday afternoon before completing the final session third. His 1’42.040 effort after 64 laps around the 4.6km layout left him fourth overall at the close of the second day, just 0.148s off the new all-time lap record set by Aron Canet, with a further three 70-minute sessions left to run on Monday.

“It has been a positive day, just riding,” Dixon said from Portugal. “I haven’t changed anything. I’m just trying to get the flow, feeling good on the bike and around the track. I have been running on old tyres, I was fast on old and new. I’m looking forward to day three to see what we can do, continuing in this way, doing a lot of laps in the last day before Qatar.

“I have achieved my fastest lap on this circuit,” he continued. “It’s business as usual, when you’re not focused on getting a lap time, it comes along! I am also very happy with the team; we continue to work hard and we have found small improvements that have allowed us to ride better. I have to try to make fewer mistakes to continue improving but overall I’m very happy.”
