Porsche and Red Bull talks come to an end

Porsche have confirmed that their talks over a collaboration with Red Bull have come to an end without a deal.

It’s a story that has been going on for some time, with the 2026 regulations around power units in Formula 1 the catalyst for the suggestion that Porsche would be interested in entering the sport, and potentially working closely in particular with Red Bull.

Indeed, with said new regulations being revealed and rubber-stamped over the summer break earlier this year, we were quick to see Audi, part of the VW Group as Porsche are, confirm their intention of entering the sport as engine manufacturers from 2026 onwards, whilst they’re also widely tipped to take over the Sauber team once Alfa Romeo leave at the end of 2023.

Porsche, though, have less advanced plans to enter F1 as things stand, after talks with Red Bull came to an end, with it clear that they wanted a bigger share of the Red Bull team than the Milton Keynes outfit was willing to give up.

Releasing a statement ahead of the Italian GP weekend, Porsche said:

“In the course of the last few months, Porsche and Red Bull have held talks on the possibility of Porsche’s entry into Formula 1.

“The two companies have now jointly come to the conclusion these talks will no longer be continued.

“The premise was always that a partnership would be based on an equal footing, which would include not only an engine partnership but also the team. This could not be achieved.

“With the finalised rule changes, the racing series nevertheless remains an attractive environment for Porsche, which will continue to be monitored.”
