Popular dessert parlour and KFC store at Greater Manchester retail park both forced to close following ‘incident’

Two takeaways at a popular retail park in Greater Manchester have both been forced to temporarily close following an ‘incident’ involving a fire.

The Kaspa’s dessert parlour and the KFC store next to it at Stockport Retail Park, originally known as the Peel Centre, are both currently shut, with a sign on the Kaspa’s restaurant saying it has closed ‘due to a recent incident’ and won’t reopen for a few weeks.

The takeaway has become famous for its popular ice cream sundaes, as well as its wide selection of milkshakes, crepes and waffles. Peel, who operate the retail park, said the incident is believed to be an internal fire from a fridge within the Kaspa’s unit.

The park owner said there has been smoke damage caused to the restaurant, whilst the adjacent KFC takeaway has been shut for ‘safety reasons’ whilst bosses investigate any damage caused to their unit. A sign on the door of the KFC store said it was closed 'due to technical issues'.

The spokesperson for Peel told the M.E.N: “We believe it was an internal fire within the Kaspas unit and localised only to the fridge area, however there has been smoke damage. They intend to undertake a re-fit to resolve the smoke damage. KFC are inspecting their unit from a H&S perspective.”

Fortunately, no one was reported injured in the fire, which is believed to have occurred in the last week. Both restaurants will remain ‘temporarily closed’ whilst works to repair the site are undertaken.
