I recommended Robert Lewandowski to Sir Alex Ferguson and Manchester United should take note

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak has admitted he recommended Robert Lewandowski to Sir Alex Ferguson during his playing days at Old Trafford.

Kuszczak represented United between 2006 and 2012, making 61 appearances in all competitions for the Reds. During this time, he became friends with Lewandowski while representing Poland internationally.

At that time, Lewandowski had just made the move to Borussia Dortmund from Lech Poznan and was showing his goalscoring ability. However, it was not until the 2011/12 season when the forward managed 22 goals in the Bundesliga that European football sat up and took notice of the Polish striker.

In 2014, he would make the switch to Bayern Munich but before then Kuszczak was asked for his opinion on Lewandowski by Ferguson ahead of a potential offer for the forward. "There was talk many years ago about him when I played for Manchester United, Sir Alex Ferguson asked me what I thought about Robert when he was a Borussia Dortmund player and I said we should sign him all day long, it would’ve been fantastic," Kuszczak recalled to OLBG.

"There was a big chance for him to join when he was out of contract at Dortmund, I read that Chelsea were extremely interested in him too. He chose to go to Bayern and did very well, it came close but didn’t happen for United.

"If Lewandowski came now he would do the same as he does in any country. In Germany or in Spain now.
