Police have issued an image of a group of people they want to speak to following a horrific double stabbing in Manchester city centre on Wednesday evening (August 16).

Two men were rushed to hospital with serious injuries from the scene on Dale Street, beside the Piccadilly Basin after being stabbed as horrified commuters watched on. One of the victims remains in in hospital in a critical condition having sustained life-threatening injuries in the attack.

Police declared a major incident and detectives are treating the attack as attempted murder. A huge scene remained in place for a number of days after the incident, with forensics officers and underwater search teams conducting enquiries.

In a new update, Greater Manchester Police have now published an image of a group of people walking along the Rochdale canal towpath and others sat on a nearby bench who they believe may have witnessed the incident.

Three men were initially arrested, two of whom have been released with no charge and the third, a 21-year-old man, has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Detective Chief Inspector, David Moores, of the Serious Crime Division of the Major Incident Team said: "We are looking to identify the people in this photograph, particularly the group of three and the two people on the bench next to them.

"We believe that they must have seen something and we are keen to speak to them."

A major incident public portal Public Portal has been set up online where any information can be submitted. Police can also be contacted via 101, quoting log number 3244-16082023.
