Police want to identify man who showed off belly as he covered face in Piccadilly Gardens

Police want to identify a man who showed off his belly as he covered his face with his t-shirt during disorder in Piccadilly Gardens.

He is one of five men that officers want to speak to about the incident that occurred on August 3 during a protest in the city centre.

The still images, taken from videos, show the man using his t-shirt to partially cover his face during the protest, revealing his belly. He also had a tattoo on his right arm.

Hundreds of people descended on Piccadilly Gardens for a demonstration entitled 'Stand Up For Your Country: Enough is Enough', as a counter rally was also attended by 350 earlier in the day.

There were tense scenes as the two groups were kept apart by rows of police officers. A large number of officers could be seen attempting to keep order and dispersing people from the area.

Police are continuing to share images of people they want to identify as part of investigations into the pockets of violent disorder that erupted in Piccadilly Gardens. Anyone who recognises them is urged to contact the force or submit information via their online portal.

A force spokesperson said: "We are investigating an outbreak of disorder which took place at Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester city centre on Saturday 3 August 2024 and are seeking to identify the following persons as part of our investigation.

"If you recognise the people pictured, please get in touch with police through the MIPP portal Public Portal (mipp.police.uk) Alternatively, contact us on 101 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, quoting Operation Spindle."
