Police investigating the death of a woman whose body was found on a footpath in Rochdale are treating the incident as suspicious, the Manchester Evening News understands.

A major incident was launched after the body of a woman, believed to be in her 40s, was discovered near the Sandbrook Park shopping centre at around 4.30am on Monday morning (July 17). Police initially responded to reports of concern for the welfare of a person.

According to Greater Manchester Police's public portal, detectives are treating her death as suspicious at this stage. A statement on the portal reads: "GMP have launched an investigation into the suspicious death of a female and are appealing for information.
