Police tape off road after rider seriously injured in off-road bike smash

Police taped off a road in Newton Heath after a smash between an off-road bike and a car. An officer 'came across' the incident on Culcheth Lane just after 4.45pm on Saturday (April 23), police said. An off-road motorbike had been in a crash with a car.

The rider of the bike was taken to hospital from the scene. They sustained serious but non life-threatening injuries. Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.

A cordon was put in place on the road near the junctions with Church Avenue and Innis Avenue on Saturday afternoon. Several police vehicles were stationed at the scene.

Pictures showed a bike on the road behind the police tape, with some debris from the crash left strewn across the floor. In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "Shortly after 4.45pm on Saturday 23 April an officer came across an off-road motorbike that had collided with a car on Culcheth Lane, Manchester.

"The rider of the bike went to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Enquiries are ongoing."
