Police shut off town centre bridge amid huge emergency service response

A bridge in Bury town centre was closed off this morning as emergency crews responded to reports of 'concern for the welfare of a man'.

Police, fire crews and paramedics were on the scene on Bury Bridge. The road was shut off for a couple of hours by officers.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said officers were responding to reports of concern for the welfare of man. The M.E.N understands the man was taken to safety.

The road was reopened again at around 10.30am.
