Police officers hit and smash car windows to stop 'dangerous' driver

A number of police officers were seen shouting and hitting car windows in an attempt to stop a 'dangerous' driver down a Bolton back street.

Police had attempted to stop the suspect who had been driving dangerously along Derby Street at around 2pm on Wednesday (January 29).

Video footage posted online shows two officers repeatedly hitting the window, shouting 'open the door' and 'stay there' repeatedly while the driver remains stationary on the cobbled street.

A convoy of other officers then arrive on blue lights, before a group of six officers charge at the car and began striking the windows with batons, smashing a window in the process. The driver is then seen to quickly reverse before he is dragged out of the vehicle and pinned to the ground.

Greater Manchester Police later confirmed that a man, aged 30, was arrested and taken into custody on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop, among other offences.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 2pm on Wednesday 29 January 2025 our officers were made aware of a man driving dangerously on Derby Street in Bolton.

"A 30-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of failing to stop, dangerous driving, driving without insurance, having possession of Class B and C drugs and having an offensive weapon. He still remains in custody at this time."
