Police officer injured amid more violent scenes on UK streets with fireworks hurled and hotel set alight
A police officer was injured outside a hotel in Staffordshire as yet more violent scenes erupted on the UK's streets on Sunday night (August 4).
Officers in Tamworth were called to deal with what Staffordshire Police described as 'violent acts of thuggery', with a hotel thought to be housing asylum seekers set alight and fireworks reportedly hurled at cops.
A large group of individuals gathered in area with people throwing projectiles, smashing windows, starting fires and targeting police. Footage posted online showed yobs entering the building via a broken window. A crowd then cheered as a fire started inside the hotel.

Another small fire was set outside the building before members of the crowd threw objects into the building. The disorder at the hotel came after dozens of demonstrators arrived outside the hotel on Sunday night to be confronted by police.
Officers were seen advancing toward protesters in a bid to drive them away from the main entrance, with one cop involved left injured in the incident.
“We’re urging members of the public to avoid the area around the Holiday Inn, Tamworth, as specialist officers continue to deal with violent acts of thuggery,” Staffordshire Police said.
"A large group of individuals are in the area and have been throwing projectiles, smashing windows, starting fires and targeting police. One officer has been injured.
“Officers are working valiantly to keep the public safe. Specialist drone surveillance and the national police air service have been sweeping the area as our efforts to identify those involved continue.”
