Police officer filmed 'kicking boy in head like football' in melee outside bus station

Shocking footage shows a police officer appearing to kick a teenage boy in the head at a bus station.

Officers were called to reports that a woman had been chased by a group of youths in Ashton-under-Lyne town centre.

In the video, shared with the Manchester Evening News , police can be seen wrestling with a teenager on the ground on Wednesday evening.

A man, which an eyewitness claimed to be a police officer, then runs towards the boy and directs a kick at him.

Two 14-year-olds were arrested, one on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and the other for public order offences.

A knife was also recovered and the incident has now been referred to the Professional Standards Branch.

"I was quite shocked," said the woman who took the footage, who asked not to be named.

"I did not expect it. I was on the bus and there was a police car and a group of young lads.

"They were following them around and it looked like they were trying to get them out of the area.

"More police turned up and they grabbed his arms and handcuffed him.

"He was really trying to get out, then all of a sudden he was on the floor.

"I thought that was going to be the end of it.

"The police officer came out nowhere and kicked him like he was a kicking a football. I could tell it was his head.

"It's wrong. There's no reason for him to do that."

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "This incident happened yesterday in Ashton-under-Lyne town centre after police were called at around 7.30pm to reports that a woman was being chased by a group of youths.
