Police issue statement over Merthyr Tydfil 'stabbing' that saw road closed
A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, following an incident which forced a road to close in Merthyr Tydfil.
A 40-year-old man was admitted to Prince Charles Hospital with stab wounds which are serious but are not believed to be life threatening, after he was found in Aberfan Road, Merthyr Tydfil. An area between the Aberfan Hotel and Station Hill has been cordoned off by South Wales Police officers, but the road has now reopened.
A South Wales Police spokesperson said: "We have arrested a 45-year-old man on suspicion of committing grievous bodily harm, following an incident which happened in Aberfan Road earlier this afternoon."
The investigation into this incident is ongoing, the spokesperson added.
Detective Inspector Jonathan Allen, said: “This incident has caused considerable concern in the local community.
“I can confirm that we made an arrest shortly after the incident and the suspect, who is known to the victim, is in police custody.
“Aberfan road is the main route through Aberfan and I would like to ask people who travelled through the village between 3.30pm and 4pm to check dashcams for relevant footage.”

Councillor for the area, Darren Roberts shared the information of the road closure after speaking with the council emergency response officer from the force, earlier this evening.
He wrote: "The area is a crime scene that needs forensics to carry out their work before the road is reopened. As you can appreciate, this is a sensitive time for those involved so please do not speculate on this post.
"It is shared to inform residents of the temporary road closure."
