A person was rushed to hospital after being struck by a train at a station in Stockport last night, British Transport Police have confirmed.

Fire crews, paramedics and police swarmed Station Road outside Cheadle Hulme after the incident just before 8.30pm last night (Monday). Trains running through the station were halted.

The person, who was trapped underneath, was rescued using specialist trauma equipment and was rushed to hospital from the scene. A BTP spokesperson confirmed today that the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

The person's condition has not been revealed at this stage. In a statement, a BTP spokesperson said: "We were called to Cheadle Hulme station at around 8.30pm last night (Monday) following reports of a casualty of the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended and a person was taken to hospital. The incident is not being treated as suspicious."

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said last night: "Just before 8.30pm this evening (Monday 26th February), one fire engine from Cheadle fire station, along with the Technical Response Unit from Ashton, were called to reports of a person being hit by a train at Cheadle Hulme Railway Station.

"The crew arrived quickly at the scene. Firefighters used trauma equipment and worked with colleagues from North West Ambulance Service to rescue one person from underneath the train, who were then taken to the hospital. Firefighters have been in attendance for around two hours and are still at the scene."
