Police issue arrest update after gun shots blasted at chippy

A man who was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a gun was blasted at a chippy in Oldham has been released on bail, police have confirmed.

Police descended on Minton Street at around 5.30pm last Thursday (April 25) after reports of a shooting. A window at the front of the Glodwick Chippy was smashed while another damaged windowpane was removed and left on display outside the premises.

Investigations were carried out and police revealed the damage was caused by a firearm. Thankfully no-one was injured.

A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. In an update issued today (April 30), a GMP spokesperson said he had since been released on bail.

Officers also recovered a vehicle in connection with the shooting. Last Thursday, a cordon was put in place around the chippy as forensic officers scoured the area.

Residents living in the area near Alexandra Park watched on as investigations were carried out on the scene. Some were regular customers at the chippy which they described as a 'nice family run business'.

DCI Lindsay Booth said previously: "This was a frightening incident and not something we will not tolerate on the streets of Greater Manchester. This could have resulted in serious injury or death but fortunately no-one was injured.

"Our officers were on the scene quickly and will remain in the area for a few days, followed up by regular patrols. I would like to thank the residents of Minton Street and the surrounding area for their patience last night as they assisted our officers with their enquiries.

"We will always act on reports and intelligence from the public to keep our communities
