Police incident closes A48 north of the Taff - live updates

South Wales Police Cardiff are dealing with a "police incident" on a stretch of the A48 Western and Eastern Avenues north of the river Taff. Although they have not specified the nature of the incident, live online maps are indicating a possible road traffic collision somewhere close to the University Hospital of Wales.

There appears to be stationary and slow moving traffic stretching for nearly a mile westbound around the scene, but tailbacks do not appear to be so bad in the opposite direction. In a notice posted on Twitter, South Wales Police Control Room stated: "We are dealing with a police incident on the A48 in Cardiff. The road is currently closed in both directions between University Hospital of Wales and Llanedeyrn. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Your patience is appreciated."

The Inrix live traffic and travel service indicated that the incident occurred around 11pm on Saturday night. It said: "A48 Western Avenue Cardiff – both directions – A48 Western Avenue in both directions closed due to police incident from A470 North Road (Gabalfa Interchange) to A4119 Cardiff Road."
