A man has been arrested after another man was seriously injured in an assault in Rochdale.

Police were called to reports of the incident in Holmes Street shortly before 12.30pm on Friday (November 8). A 42-year-old man was found to have suffered serious injuries after being attacked.

However, his injuries are not "life-threatening or changing", according to Greater Manchester Police (GMP). A 33-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing forensic officers combing a house on the street, a short distance from Rochdale town centre, earlier today (Saturday). Pictures from the scene show a cordon in place at the front of the property and two police vehicles parked outside.

In a statement, a spokesperson for GMP said: "We were called yesterday (Friday 8 November) shortly before 12:30pm. A 33-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault. Injuries are serious but thankfully not life threatening or changing."
