Police cordon and man rushed to hospital after ‘fight’ breaks out in Piccadilly Gardens

A man was rushed to hospital after a fight broke out in Piccadilly Gardens on Tuesday (June 25) evening. Police were called to reports of a fight at around 6.45pm outside Nando's and the Travelodge in the city centre.

One man was injured and taken to hospital, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said. His injuries are not thought to be life threatening, the M.E.N. understands.

Pictures from the scene show three police cars and one ambulance were in attendance for a number of hours, with the pavement blocked off. A number of items remained within the cordon including some rubbish, a hat and some crutches.

A man was detained on suspicion of affray, it is understood. Eyewitnesses reported seeing 'three or four males' fighting with another male, leaving him 'badly injured'. Others reported seeing a male rushed away in the back of an ambulance within minutes.

A spokesperson for GMP said: "At around 6:45pm this evening (25/06/2024), police were called to reports of a fight in the Piccadilly Gardens area of Manchester. One man was injured and has been taken to hospital for treatment."
