Gareth Southgate's England contract situation, FA stance and Man United links

Gareth Southgate remains focused on the task at hand for the Three Lions - despite speculation over his future as England boss and reported links to Manchester United he's had to face during Euro 2024.

With his side set to meet Spain in the final of the European Championship on Sunday, 53-year-old Southgate could very well become the first English manager to clinch the competition.

The tournament hasn't been without its share of pressure for the national team, not least due to questions resurfacing about Southgate's tenure, especially with his current contract with the Football Association due to end in December. However, the FA is reportedly keen to extend this agreement.

Southgate has remained steadfast that discussions around his expiring deal would not take place during the summer competition and although many predict he will end his eight-year stint following the Euros, he has previously alluded to being open to an ongoing engagement with the international team.

Before the tournament, Southgate stated: "You've got to see how the summer goes. It's as simple as that," in response to queries regarding his future while he later further confirmed that his contractual situation wouldn't distract him during the Euros.

"Well, for me, it's not an issue and never has been," Southgate said. "I have to deliver a successful tournament for England and there's enough work involved in that. I think everybody would expect that's where my focus should be."
