Police caution coach Rana Reider after he was caught at World Championships despite ban

A former UK Athletics coach subject to multiple sexual misconduct allegations was cautioned by police in Eugene on Saturday after he was caught on site at the World Championships and refused to leave despite being denied accreditation.

Rana Reider, who continues to coach British sprinter Adam Gemili as well as two of the American 100 metres medalists, was banned from attending these World Championships while he continues to be under investigation.

He was unable to gain accreditation through both the United States team and one other national team. However, he was found within the grounds before Saturday evening’s session, which saw his American athletes Marvin Bracy and Trayvon Bromell win 100m silver and bronze medals.

“Police were immediately notified and went to remove him from the venue. When he observed police officers approaching him, he left the venue.

“Outside the venue, he was stopped by police and advised that if he returned to the venue he would be arrested for trespassing.”

Reider was spotted back at the World Championships on Sunday morning coaching his athletes from outside the warm-up area, where accreditation is not required.
