Police car chase down the wrong way on the A580 leads to four arrests

A 10-mile police car chase from Farnworth to Pendleton saw the pursued vehicle travel the wrong way on the A580 before four arrests were made on suspicion of burglary. The stolen SEAT Arona was eventually halted by a stinger and was duly abandoned.

The four occupants fled to a nearby rail track but were apprehended by Greater Manchester Police's traffic officers with the assistance of the force's Tactical Dogs Unit and the National Police Air Service's north-west team. The incident was recounted on the GMP Traffic Twitter account @gmptraffic, along with an accompanying photograph of the stolen car, in a 2.38am post during the early hours of this morning.

It read: "Stolen Seat Arona would make off from #XT18 in Farnworth and was pursued into Salford where it travelled contra along the A580. Stung in Pendleton it was abandoned + 4 males made off onto the railway. With the help of #XA #XG @GMPDogs + @NPASNorthWest all 4 arrested for Burglary."
