Police appeal after elderly man punched in the head while walking his dog

Police are appealing for information after an elderly man was punched to the head by an ‘unidentified male’ while walking his dog.

The victim was walking on the canal path between Henry Park Street and Leigh Street in Ince at 10.30am on Saturday (July 21) when he was punched to the head.

Police have described the suspected attacker as a white man, of medium build and 5ft 5inches tall with medium grey short hair and stubble.

He was wearing a blue/grey t-shirt, a light grey jacket, dark pants and blue glasses. The assailant was also with a brown Staffordshire bull terrier type dog wearing a grey harness.

In an appeal issued on social media today (Sunday) GMP Wigan West said: “We are investigating an assault which has occurred on the 20th July at 10.30hrs on the canal path between Henry Park Street and Leigh Street in Ince.

"The victim, who is an elderly male, at the time was walking with his dog and friend where he has been punched to his head by an unidentified male.

“The offender has been described as a white male, medium build approximately 5ft5 tall with medium grey short hair and stubble. Wearing blue/grey t-shirt, a light grey jacket, dark pants and wearing blue glasses. He was in possession of a dog described as a brown Staffordshire bull terrier type wearing a grey harness.

“If anyone has witnessed this altercation or have any information which may assist in identifying this male, please email us on 18728@gmp.police.uk quoting incident log 1278-20072024”.
