Pogba, Mata, Lingard: One player remains from Man Utd’s Europa League winning XI

Manchester United have confirmed the departures of several key players following the end of the 2021/22 season.

Following a dismal campaign that saw hopes of a Premier League title push turn into a sixth place finish, another rebuild is on the cards at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag has taken charge of the club following the conclusion of Ralf Rangnick’s interim period, and with a reshuffle of operations above him, United seem to have pressed the reset button once again.

United have confirmed that Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata will all leave the club in June upon the expiry of their contracts.

They will be following the likes of Edinson Cavani, Nemanja Matic and Lee Grant out of the door, all of whom will also leave the club.

Mata will leave behind a strong legacy at United, despite many feeling he never quite reached the levels expected due to being played out of position so regularly.

While Lingard has had his critics for the downfall in recent years, no fans will ever be able to forget the moments he gave United at his best, including goals in the FA Cup, Carabao Cup and Community Shield finals, as well as other iconic moments such as his brace away to Arsenal in 2017.

The jury will always be out on Pogba, who leaves the club for free for a second time in his career, and could subsequently join Juventus for nothing for a second time as a result. His world record return started brightly, but fizzled away after the first few seasons when it became increasingly apparent that he could not find a consistent tune for United.
