Podium spots for Dumfries and Galloway crews on Grampian Forest Rally

Two Dumfries and Galloway crews took podium finishes in a fiercely contested Voyonic Grampian Forest Rally on Saturday.

Dumfries’ Mark McCulloch and co-driver Michael Hendry were second in their Proton Satria, just three seconds behind the Ford Fiesta Rally2 of winners David Henderson and Chris Lees.

And a further two seconds back was KNC Groundworks Scottish Rally Championship leader Jock Armstrong of Castle Douglas, with Hannah McKillop on the notes in their Subaru Impreza. A mere nine seconds covered the top five after nearly 44 miles on the Kincardineshire stages.

Iain Wilson from Dalbeattie claimed 11th in his Ford Fiesta Rally2 with Chris Williams, one place ahead of Angus Lawrie from Castle Douglas and Paul Gribben from Annan in their Mitsubishi Evo 9.

Eighteenth went to Scott Peacock from Castle Douglas and Craig Wallace in their Evo 8 – giving them runners-up spot in the Albyn Garage Challengers competition.

Third in the Challengers was Dumfries’ Robert Proudlock with Steven Brown in his Opel Adam, the pair taking the Moates Offshore Juniors win as Robert bids for back-to-back titles.

Peter Stewart and Harry Marchbank of Dumfries claimed Pro2 honours in their Peugeot 208 and second in the two-wheel drive ranks.

Richard Stewart of Dumfries and Carin Tait-Logan were second in Pro2 in their similar car.

And there was Haddo Energy Super Seniors success for Jim Robertson of Penpont and Mike Curry from Thornhill in their Ford Escort Mk2.

Dumfries duo David Hardie and John McCulloch were third in class M4 in their Escort Mk2, with Donald Peacock of Bridge of Dee and Mairi Riddick of Dumfries third in H2 in their similar car.
