Plymouth Argyle boost as Steven Schumacher speaks out over potential transfer

Plymouth Argyle are still desperately searching for a new striker to add to their ranks – and according to the Plymouth Herald, that hunt might end up coming to an end this week.

The League One club were scrambling for a play-off spot in the third tier last season and after sitting comfortably in those spots for the majority of the year, they ended up falling away when it really mattered.

Schumacher will not want it to happen again and he clearly feels as though adding a forward to their ranks would be beneficial. After scouring the transfer market for options, it now seems as though the Argyle boss might have found a solution, although who is unclear.

That’s because the manager has admitted he could add a new player to his side’s attack this week – and potentially ‘at the start of the week’ too.

Plymouth bagged a total of 68 goals in the 2021/22 season, which was the joint-worst record in the top ten of League One along with Portsmouth. That’s despite having Ryan Hardie on their books, who managed a total of 16 league goals and four assists in 34 starts.

That’s an average of 0.62 goals or assists per 90 minutes and was the best total in his career to date. Even with his superb haul, Schumacher still feels as though he has the need for another body in his strikeforce – and the good news is that he might not have much longer to wait to add someone to his club’s ranks.

Speaking to the Plymouth Herald, the manager said: “I’m hoping it doesn’t take too long.

“I would like to have somebody at the start of this week so they can get two games in with us because I think that’s important. These things sometimes take time especially for forward players, it’s complicated.

“We will just have to be patient on it. If it comes in early
