Plymouth Albion make encouraging pre-season start with win against Okehampton

Many of the nation’s unsung sporting heroes have been royally entertaining us during this hot dry summer. Indeed, Birmingham 2022 has been a welcome break from the media near monoculture of soccer, more soccer and still more soccer. Scrutiny, analysis and the endless opinions of soccer’s Premiership Pundits tends to grate on those millions who alienated to the once ‘Beautiful Game’ by the financial obscenity driving Premiership football.

I make an exception with the ‘Lionesses’ who did so very well in returning the true nature and sporting values to the oval ball game. Indeed, it was heart-warming to learn that Leah Williams and the rest of the Lioness team sent messages of encouragement to England’s Hockey women on the day of their Gold Medal performance in Birmingham.

The outburst of sheer joy and delight that defined the sporting heart of the Lioness success was again there in abundance throughout the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. Competitors, commentators and millions of fans delighted in the true spirit of Sport. Indeed 1.2 million advance ticket sales rewarded spectators with 4,600 competitors from 72 nations coming together in world class competition. The title of ‘The Friendly Games ‘epitomised all that is good in the wider world of sport.

I subscribe to the adage of ‘Live and let live ‘and extend every good wish to our friends and neighbours at Plymouth Argyle. Fly the Ocean City flag with pride and confidence taking our best wishes to you for a successful cup and league season from us at the Brickfields.

Albion kick off our own Div. 1 National League season with an away game to Cambridge on September 3rd. We have a second away game to local rivals Taunton Titans on 10thSeptember, with our first home
