PLN Ensures Electricity for Formula E Won't Be Sourced from Fossil Fuel

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned electricity firm PLN guaranteed that the electricity supply for Formula E electric car racing event or Jakarta E-Prix in early June will not use fossil fuels.

General Manager of PLN Greater Jakarta Distribution Unit, Doddy B. Pangaribuan, said that the electricity supply for the international event will be sourced from geothermal energy and environmentally-friendly hydropower supplied by three power substations for the Greater Jakarta Distribution Main Unit (UID) totaling 7 MVA (7 million volt amperes).

“So we will not use fuel oil,” said Doddy in North Jakarta as quoted from Antara today, Friday, May 13, 2022.

According to him, PLN Greater Jakarta Distribution Unit will receive additional electricity supply once solar power plants and wind power plants construction projects complete.

Green energy for the eco-friendly racing event has also received a Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) from the United States.

Doddy also ensured that the electricity supply for Formula E 2022 will not disrupt the electricity supply for the people of Greater Jakarta, which consists of Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi..

The total power supply capacity of PLN Greater Jakarta Distribution Unit reaches 8,000 megawatts. Jakarta, meanwhile, recorded the highest electricity consumption load on April 18, 2022, with up to 5,300 megawatts.
