Player ratings: Ogbene the standout in Paris defeat

The Republic of Ireland fell to a 2-0 defeat to France at Parc des Princes in Paris on Thursday night.

It was a decent performance by Stephen Kenny's men, who were undone by a terrific Aurelien Tchouameni effort and an emphatic finish from Marcus Thuram.

Here's how we rated the Boys in Green.

GAVIN BAZUNU - 5

Will be frustrated to have conceded another long-ranger, albeit Tchouameni's effort was top quality. Had a couple of nervy moments, though he did claw away a good Tchouameni hit in the second half.

ALAN BROWNE - 7

Deputised well at right wing-back in the absence of Seamus Coleman and Matt Doherty. He was handed the unenviable task of trying to keep a lid on Kylian Mbappe, Theo Hernandez and occasionally the roaming Antoine Griezmann but can be satisfied with his night's work. Made one brilliant sliding tackle to dispossess Mbappe, and was reliable in possession.

JOHN EGAN - 6.5

There were question marks around his fitness but Egan produced a typically committed display. Made a really good block to deny Giroud inside the first five minutes and was unlucky for the Thuram goal - making a fine block to deny Mbappe before the ball broke kindly for the Frenchmen to smash it home.

NATHAN COLLINS - 6

Went on an outrageous charge forward in the first half after making an interception, only for Ogbene to delay his return pass with the Leixlip man screaming for it. Perhaps could have done better with the defensive header that led to
