PL club given green light to pursue 'incredible' Rangers star; Gerrard's Villa also interested

A club in the Premier League have reportedly now been given the green light by their owner to pursue a move for Glasgow Rangers midfielder Joe Aribo.

The 25-year-old is facing an uncertain future at Ibrox, as he only has one year left on his contract.

It has been reported that the Gers are ‘confident’ that they can make a ‘significant profit’ on the Nigeria international this summer, which suggests that they would be open to selling him at the right price.

As per The Scottish Sun, Nottingham Forest and Steve Cooper have now been given the ‘green light’ by their billionaire owner Evangelos Marinakis to pursue their interest in Aribo, whose representatives have indicated that he is ‘unlikely’ to sign a new contract at Rangers.

However, Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa, along with Crystal Palace and Fulham, are also thought to be interested in the Nigerian’s signature.

If the Light Blues are to let Aribo go this summer, then they must sell him at a premium price, especially if clubs from the English top flight come calling.

Hailed as ‘incredible’ by sports performance consultant Allistair McCaw after playing no fewer than 70 times for club and country last season, the 25-year-old is clearly a key player in Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side, so he would not be easy to replace.

Indeed, only two players clocked up more minutes for the Teddy Bears last term than Aribo’s 4,482, while he ranked as their third-best performer on WhoScored and posted the squad’s second-highest dribbling average (1.4 per game), so his influence is clear to see.

Rangers should be looking to try and tie him down to a new deal if possible. If not, they must ensure that they get a proper reimbursement for him in the transfer market.
