Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins dead at 24
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins has died aged 24, the NFL franchise have announced.
Haskins, who was selected in the first round of the 2019 NFL draft by the Washington Commanders and joined the Steelers last year, was reportedly hit by a car in South Florida, where the team was on Saturday morning.
Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin said: "I am devastated and at a loss for words with the unfortunate passing of Dwayne Haskins.
"He quickly became part of our Steelers family upon his arrival in Pittsburgh and was one of our hardest workers, both on the field and in our community.
"Dwayne was a great team-mate, but even more so a tremendous friend to so many. I am truly heartbroken.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Kalabrya, and his entire family during this difficult time."
Ohio State alumnus Haskins played 16 times in his two seasons at Washington. He was third-choice at Pittsburgh last season and did not make a competitive appearance but had signed a new one-year contract last month.
