Pitso Mosimane, Mandla Ncikazi, Percy Tau and 3 SA-based players nominated for CAF Awards

Former Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane will be going up against several top individuals for the 2022 CAF Coach of the Year award after the nominations was announced on Thursday.

The 57-year-old guided the Red Devils to the finals of the CAF Champions League, only to taste defeat against Wydad Athletic Club in Morocco last month. After nearly two-years at the club, Mosimane decided to part ways with the Egyptian giants.

Orlando Pirates assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi also received a nod for the prestigious award after reeling the Buccaneers to the CAF Confederation Cup final, but losing to RS Berkane in penalty shoot-out.

Former Bafana Bafana boss Carlos Queiroz (Egypt) made the cut, with Cup-winning coaches Florent Ibenge (RS Berkane) and Walid Ragrigui (Wydad AC) deservingly receiving nominations.

Al Ahly's Percy Tau, who was lured by Mosimane from Brighton and Hove Albion, will be up for the Interclub Player of the Year gong along side Peter Shalulile (Mamelodi Sundowns), Bandile Shandu and Thembinkosi Lorch (both Orlando Pirates).

The Buccaneers will also be up for the Club of the Year award.

The Player of the Year award will be contested by 30 players from 13 countries that includes Mohamed Salah (Liverpool/Egypt), Sadio Mane (Bayen Munich/Senegal), Yves Bissouma (Tottenham Hotspur/Mali) and Edourd Mendy (Chelsea/Senegal).

The award ceremony will take place on Thursday, 21 July.
