Pirelli confirms F1 tyre selection for low-demand Interlagos circuit in Brazil

Pirelli confirmed the tyres for this weekend's Brazilian Grand Prix, saying that Formula 1 teams will make do with the three compounds in the middle of its five-tyre range. As such, the C2 will act as the white-marked Hard tyre, the C3 as the yellow-marked Medium, and the C4 as the red-marked Soft.

The C1 and C5 are, respectively, the hardest and softest compounds in Pirelli's F1 tyre range.

The allocation for this race mimics the tyre selection for the Grands Prix in Saudi Arabia, Imola, Miami, France, Hungary, Belgium, Italy, the United States, and Mexico.

The tyre sets

Brazil is also the last time the Sprint Race format will feature in a race weekend this year. As such, the number of tyre sets available to each driver is reduced from 13 to 12, with the split going: 2x Hard, 4x Medium, and 6x Soft.

If rain impacts any part of the racing weekend, teams will have six sets of the green-walled Intermediate tyre and three sets of the blue-walled full-wet tyre.

But Pirelli says that their decision for the selected tyres is because the track does not put significant demands on the tyres regarding traction and braking. Drivers can exercise greater control over the degradation of the rear tyres, especially.

At 4.309km, Interlagos is the shortest track after Monaco and Mexico.

Pirelli Motorsport Director Mario Isola said: "In 2021, the grid on Saturday (Sprint Race) was equally split between drivers starting on the medium and the soft tyres.
