Pierre Gasly offers thoughts on 'disappointing' qualifying for AlphaTauri

Pierre Gasly has described his qualifying for AlphaTauri as ‘disappointing’ with both cars unable to get out of Q1 on Friday afternoon.

The F1 circus is in Imola this weekend and it’s a home race for the Faenza-based team, but they are going to have to fight their way through the field if they are to score any points.

Both Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda could not get out of Q1 and, that said, the Frenchman admitted that it was a really disappointing session, with him saying he just hopes that they can work their way up the field.

Speaking post-qualy, Gasly said:

“I don’t exactly know what happened today. The track was at the driest on our last lap, but we were still knocked out so it’s very disappointing.

“We need to make a lot of positions up tomorrow, as we’re obviously not where we want to be. Firstly, we need to go away and analyse everything from today to understand, we clearly could’ve done better, and then hopefully we can make our way forward across the rest of the weekend.”

Sprint returns for the first time this season later on this afternoon at Imola, and Gasly and Tsunoda will hope the extra racing action will allow them to work their way up the field for the Grand Prix on Sunday.
