Pierre Gasly linked with move to Alpine for 2023

Pierre Gasly has become one of the latest names to be linked with the vacant Alpine seat for 2023, in a move that would seal an all-French line-up for the French/British team next year.

Gasly only recently signed a new deal with AlphaTauri to keep him there for next season, with it looking, at the time, as though that was his best option to stay in F1 given other routes looked blocked up.

However, things have changed pretty drastically in the driver market in recent weeks, with Sebastian Vettel confirming his retirement at the end of 2022, Fernando Alonso set to replace him, and Alpine therefore looking for a new driver – especially with it uncertain that Oscar Piastri is going to be there next year.

Daniel Ricciardo and Mick Schumacher have been the other names considerably linked with a move to Alpine for ’23, meanwhile, but Gasly has now joined the apparent list of contenders, though it remains to be seen if a deal can be done there.

Speaking to Sky over the course of the Belgian Grand Prix weekend, he didn’t exactly move to quash the speculation:

“At the moment, I don’t really want to make too many comments because I haven’t seen anything yet.”

Clearly, there is a lot up in the air at the moment in terms of the driver market for 2023, and it remains to be seen just who is going to end up where.

We might start being able to put the puzzle together from next week, though, with the FIA’s Contract Recognition Board set to meet and make a decision over Piastri and his Alpine/McLaren situation.
