Pierre Gasly '100% confirmed' to be driving for AlphaTauri in 2023

Pierre Gasly appears set to stay at AlphaTauri for 2023 despite speculation linking him with a move away from the Red Bull junior team.

Ever since Sergio Perez extended his contract with Red Bull until 2024 back in May, rumours surrounding Gasly’s future have been rife, and the Frenchman himself weighed in saying he wanted to discuss his contract with Red Bull’s chiefs.

But Franz Tost, team-principal of AlphaTauri, appears to have settled the matter, saying on Saturday during the Canadian Grand Prix, ‘He [Gasly] will be a driver of us, of Scuderia AlphaTauri in 2023.

‘It is 100% confirmed. He has a valid contract, there’s nothing to say more.’

It was previously unknown how long Gasly’s Red Bull contract lasted for, with some claiming it still had years to run while others believed it would expire at the end of this season.

As such it was thought that the 26-year-old could seek a drive elsewhere, as Alpine and Aston Martin currently have at least one seat available, while a shock switch to McLaren had also been mooted.

Gasly’s Formula 1 career has been a rollercoaster since he made his debut in 2017 with Toro Rosso, now known as AlphaTauri, where he showed great promise before getting called up to Red Bull in 2019.

Unfortunately, he looked completely out of his depth against Max Verstappen, so much so that he was demoted after just half-a-season with Alex Albon taking his place.

At that point his career looked to be over before it had even begun, but since that moment the Frenchman has driven exceptionally, consistently finishing in the points and picking up three podiums, including a momentous win at the 2020 Italian Grand Prix.
