Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang explains emotional reason behind his El Clasico goal celebration

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang continued to the sensational star he has made to his Barcelona career with a brace in Sunday’s 4-0 win over Real Madrid.

The 32-year-old’s stint at Arsenal ended in acrimony following the deterioration of his relationship with Mikel Arteta but he he as rediscovered his golden touch in recent weeks.

Aubameyang took his tally to seven goals in as many matches as a stunned Bernabeu were forced to endure a chastening defeat at the hands of Xavi’s rejuvenated side.

The former Borussia Dortmund forward opened the scoring with an adroit near post header following a superb run and cross from Ousmane Dembele.

And he put the icing on the cake with his second goal of the match, brilliantly dinking the ball over the top of the advancing Thibaut Courtois.

The celebration that greeted Aubameyang’s second goal was inspired by his favourite animated series according to Diario Sport. It’s known as the Super Saiyan gesture.

‘It was a ball from Dragon Ball,’ he revealed. ‘With it you can make a wish. I wanted to win and score a goal for my grandparents, who are gone.

‘A friend of mine gave it to me. I thought about it today.’

The friend Aubameyang was referring to is Alejandro Nicolas, a tattoo artist who is said to be very close to the striker.

Aubameyang is no stranger to elaborate celebrations, memorably donning the Black Panther Mask after scoring for the Gunners in a Europa League tie against Rennes three years ago.

‘I needed the mask who represents me,’ he said after that memorable celebration. ‘It’s the black panther in Gabon.

‘We call the national team of Gabon the panthers so it represents me.’
