PICS | Up close and personal as Formula E hits the streets of Cape Town

The build-up to this weekend's Formula E race may have turned the Green Point precinct on its head, but Cape Town is ready to host the biggest event in its history since the 2010 Soccer World Cup.

For the last few months, stakeholders and role players have begun to gradually turn the area around Cape Town Stadium into a race-friendly venue.

From modifying and altering the streets to erecting the 2 500-seater grandstand and fan villages, Cape Town has been a hive of activity to ready itself for the upcoming e-Prix.

A lot is riding on this event, because the success thereof will determine the city's chances of hosting the event again. Yes, a 10-year agreement is in place, but Formula E reserves the right to cancel it if certain demands are not met.

Thankfully, Cape Town is on track - excuse the pun - to become a permanent fixture on the e-Prix calendar.

The Cape Town e-Prix gets underway on Saturday, 25 February, at 16:00.
