Philippe Clement coughs up Ryan Kent transfer knockback but Rangers boss desperate to make one thing crystal clear

Philippe Clement has revealed that he once tried hard to bring Ryan Kent to Club Brugge - but stopped short of adding to speculation surrounding the winger coming back to Rangers for a second spell.

The former Liverpool kid's miserable stint at Turkish giants Fenerbahce came to an end on Thursday, just 16 months after he left the Gers on a free transfer to join the Istanbul side. Kent made just 19 appearances last season and fell further down the pecking order following Jose Mourinho's arrival last summer. The remaining three and a half years of the 27-year-old's contract has now been ripped up, sparking some Rangers fans on social media to ask for Clement to bring him back to Govan.

The Belgian boss worked with the ex-England youth international for seven month's in the early part of his tenure at Ibrox and confirmed that Kent was on his radar long before he took up the reins at Rangers. Speaking ahead of Sunday's trip to Killie, Clement said: "I've said it a lot in the last year that I don't go into rumours as it never stops.

"But of course I know the player and have for a long time because in the moment he went to Rangers I was in talks with him to get him (to come) to Brugge. But there was a better deal from Rangers so he chose that. I am not going to go into rumours about bringing in players or not."
