Phil Neville names Manchester United's biggest post-Sir Alex Ferguson mistake

Phil Neville has named the biggest mistake Manchester United have made since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Neville came through the ranks at United alongside his brother Gary in the Class of '92. He would eventually leave Old Trafford in 2005 to join Everton, however, he made his return as part of former Everton boss David Moyes' backroom staff following the retirement of Ferguson.

Moyes' time at Old Trafford lasted less than a year as the reigning Premier League champions never looked like retaining their crown. Now Inter Miami boss, Neville told Sky Sports that the decision to sack Moyes was poorly judged.

"If you look back now it was totally wrong the lack of time he was given," he said. "The lack of time, the lack of backing, the lack of finance in terms of the investment other managers have had.

"When we both left the club at that time we needed another season - I think we deserved another season. 10 months at Manchester United in a difficult period when the greatest manager of all time left wasn't enough.

"He had unbelievable plans to take the club forward in that summer and I would say, looking back, that is one of the biggest mistakes Manchester United have made over the last five, six years since Sir Alex left, not giving David Moyes more time. He has proven now at West Ham that, with time, he can build a football club to sustain with quality and to be successful."
