Phil Hay left stunned over key Leeds United moment vs Leicester

Leeds United fell to a 1-0 defeat in what was Jesse Marsch’s debut game as the club’s new manager following Harvey Barnes’ strike midway through the second half.

The American could have been left feeling aggrieved however over one particularly contentious refereeing decision.

They could’ve had a penalty in the first half as it appeared Rodrigo was fouled. The officials disagreed and nothing was given. The Athletic’s Phil Hay was surprised by the verdict and referred to footage from Leeds’ clash with Chelsea earlier in the season and Antonio Rudiger’s spot-kick.

He was clearly unhappy with the call and lack of consistency from the officials, something all football fans can agree on. He took to Twitter to voice his displeasure, stating: “That’s been a good half. Shape and organisation is there. Firpo with the best chance and Harrison with a decent one too. Surprised they didn’t pay more attention to Soyuncu’s kick on Rodrigo in the box, but still. #lufc.”

It was a poor result for Leeds who suffered a further setback in their hunt for survival, although the early signs under the new manager are positive. On another day, Leeds could’ve won the game comfortably.

Thankfully, Burnley, who have two games in hand on the Whites lost one of them today, being put to the sword by a rampant Chelsea. Although Burnley’s other game in hand could see them jump Leeds, another opportunity missed is another bullet dodged by Marsch’s side.
