Peterson appointed as coach of MI Cape Town, Malinga joins fold

Former Proteas all-rounder Robin Peterson has been promoted as head coach of the SA20 franchise, MI Cape Town.

Peterson was general manager of the franchise for the inaugural edition of the SA20 earlier this year.

MI Cape Town won three of their 10 SA20 games, finishing bottom of the standings.

Peterson, who is the head coach of the Warriors, will take over the head coaching role from Simon Katich and has roped in Mumbai Indians and former fast bowler Lasith Malinga as the franchise's new bowling coach.

Malinga, who played 84 T20Is for Sri Lanka, served as head coach and bowling coach, respectively, at the inaugural Major League Cricket, securing the title in the inaugural season with MI New York.

"The MI Cape Town management would like to thank Simon Katich and Jacob Oram for their efforts and contribution and wish them the best for the future," read their statement.

Meanwhile, former Proteas star batter Hashim Amla will resume his role as batting coach of MI Cape Town.

The SA20 auction takes place on Wednesday in Johannesburg at 16:00.

MI Cape Town have a remaining R5.05 million in their purse, with five spots still available.
