Peterborough United 2-3 Swansea City: Joel Piroe nets dramatic winner after Michael Obafemi brace

Joel Piroe struck an injury-time winner as Swansea City came from behind to beat Peterborough United in a frenetic Championship encounter.

Russell Martin's men dominated the opening half at the Weston Homes Stadium and took the lead through Michael Obafemi after a slick pass from Jamie Paterson.

The Swans collapsed in the second-half and trailed after Sammie Szmodics and Jack Marriott struck in quick succession.

They remained threatening though and Obafemi notched his sixth goal in nine games to level proceedings.

And Piroe struck a dramatic late winner as the Swans earned all three points to heap further misery on the league's bottom side.

The visitors made one change to the side that started the 1-0 loss at Blackpool, with Hannes Wolf replacing Olivier Ntcham after fully recovering from Covid-19.

Pitch inspections took place prior to kick-off as heavy rainfall ensured the playing surface was heavy to say the least, although referee Oliver Langford was satisfied that the game could go ahead.

With Peterborough opting against pressing their opponents, Swansea stuck to their usual methods of playing out from the back while also showing a willingness to be direct when required.

After the Posh failed to clear their lines on eight minutes, Obafemi was presented with a glorious chance to put the visitors ahead, although his fierce strike was palmed away by Dai Cornell.

That was a sign of things to come, with former Swan Cornell proving to be a busy man in the Peterborough goal in the absence of loanee Steven Benda who was ineligible to face his parent club.
